Apple’s AR Headset Will Run a New Operating System As “realityOS” Reference Discovered in New Source Code
The “realityOS” references were found in the App Store uploads logs and Apple open-source code today. Apple has at least two projects - the AR headset as well as the AR glasses. The AR headset could potentially launch later this year or the next year but the glasses could be unveiled at a later date. Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the headset could be powered by two M1-styled chips. This means that the headset would house enormous processing power, similar to the Macs. Moreover, it could also feature seamless switching between AR and VR modes thanks to the computing power. It also gives us a rough idea of how “realityOS” will work.

The “r” stands for reality, which is pretty similar to how Apple’s other operating system names work. The operating system is internally known as “Oak.” The company also wants to build an App Store for its headset which will focus on gaming, media consumption, and conferencing.

It was previously rumored that the headset will launch sometime this year but ongoing reports point to a 2023 launch.
