Based on the current prediction we have, Samsung might not be able ot meet the target that it had set. The prediction states that Samsung has a chance of shipping only 8 million of the latest foldable smartphones. This number might seem impressive at first but if you look back, last year, the South Korean giant sold 7.1 million units.
Samsung is Not Getting Closer to Its Target for Foldable Phones, But Sales are Still Impressive
The prediction is coming from Noh Geun-chang, head of the Hyundai Motor Securities Research Center. According to Geun-chang, this year, Samsung is going to sell a total of 10 million units but this number will contain all the foldable phones including the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and other phones in the series. There are a number of reasons why Samsung may have overestimated its sales. For starters, the market response and the economic condition are two reasons. Tm Roh, the head of the mobile business talked about how the company is expecting to cross 10 million in sales with foldable phones in 2022. There are several factors at play that could be resulting in the consumers not wanting the new foldable phones, in the first place. For starters, foldable phones are still relatively new as compared to the traditional, candy-bar style phones that we are all used to, the latter being more durable as well.
